Symbiosis: When Service-Learning Meets the Work of Howard Gardner

The publication of Howard Gardner's book, "Frames of Mind," coincidentally paralleled the start of the service-learning movement in 1983. The theory of multiple intelligences has been embraced by service-learning practitioners for years, and this article examines the relationship between Gardner's recent work on the GoodWorks Project and the Essential Elements for Effective Service-Learning Practice, which were established in 1999 by NYLC.
