MEDIA ALERT: Qatar Foundation International Brings 37 Student Leaders from Qatar, Brazil and throughout the U.S. to Minneapolis
YALLAH: Commit to Action youth will attend the 23rd Annual National Service-Learning Conference® and youthrive PeaceJam Leadership Conference to inform their service projects
WHAT:
As recipients of $2,000 grants from QFI, these students have identified needs in their local and global communities and developed service projects to meet those needs. By attending this conference, these students will sharpen their leadership skills and develop better resources to see their projects come to fruition.
This conference is the largest gathering of youth and educators involved in service-learning, a teaching and learning process used to help students connect academics to real community issues. The conference is convened by Saint Paul-based National Youth Leadership Council and youthrive and draws nearly 2,000 attendees from across the United States and around the globe.
WHO:
Examples of students and their projects:
- Nasser Marzook from Musa’ab Bin Omair in Qatar has developed a project around ocean conservation and preservation advocacy.
- Nazeehah Khan from OWN! Hawaii is using Sufi poetry to promote cultural diversity among youth in Hawaii.
- Allan Silva from BibliASPA in Brazil is teaching entrepreneurship and leadership skills to youth in his community.

In addition to attending conference sessions at the Minneapolis Convention Center Wednesday, April 11 – Saturday, April 14, students will also participate in the following activities:
- Tuesday, April 10, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Segway Tour
- Tuesday, April 10, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. International Reception at the Minneapolis Convention Center
- Saturday, April 14, 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. Serve and Celebrate projects throughout Frogtown
- Sunday, April 15, 1:10 p.m. Twins Game
- Monday, April 16, 5:00 p.m. Graduation Ceremony and Dinner, Como Park Conservatory 1225 Estabrook Drive, Saint Paul, MN
