Car crashes are the biggest killer of teens today, and Project Ignition is out to change that. Project Ignition supports high school students, teachers, and community program leaders in working together to create innovative service-learning projects promoting teen driver safety.

Teams create campaigns using their choice of strategies, including: television, radio and print public service announcements; school assemblies; community events; interactive demonstrations; art exhibitions; publications; short films; and more.

We are proud to announce significant enhancements to Project Ignition this year, including opportunities to participate at two levels:

Tier 1: Take the Project Ignition Challenge

  • Apply for a grant to help your school improve teen driver safety. In December, 2010, Project Ignition will choose 25 schools to receive $2,000 grants to implement their programs during the Spring semester.
  • All public schools in the United States and in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario, and New Brunswick are eligible. Applications are due in November, 2010.

Tier 2: Become a Project Ignition Leader School

  • Project Ignition will honor 10 of the 25 Tier 1 schools as “Project Ignition Leader Schools” and support them in going deeper with their teen driving safety initiatives the following school year.
  • Leader Schools will receive $2,500 to implement their approved plans for expansion, along with $5,000 to support them in presenting their work at the National Service-Learning Conference in spring 2012.

Put your school in the driver’s seat for Project Ignition 2010-11. Help prove that what young leaders are learning in school can improve the world and save lives! Applications will be available in August. Email Project Ignition to receive updates.

Project Ignition is sponsored by the State Farm® Companies Foundation and NYLC.
