Join us for this annual two-day event that focuses on applying the principles of service-learning in urban environments. This event brings together community members, young people, and school leaders to discuss service-learning outreach and application techniques that help urban students achieve academic excellence and become strong community leaders. Participants have an opportunity to explore current trends and topics affecting urban communities, and to share and learn from colleagues from other urban districts.

Training Grants Available

The Institute for Global Education and Service-Learning has funds available that will provide training grants to local education agencies interested in bringing a team of students to the Sixth Annual National Urban Service-Learning Institute. Deadline to submit the application has passed.

Hotel Information

There will be a discounted rate for the National Urban Service-Learning Institute attendees at the Downtown Philadelphia Marriott. Rooms are $149 per night, plus tax (15.2%). Please call the Marriott directly at 215-625-2900 to make your reservation. Mention the ‘Sixth Annual National Urban Service-Learning Institute’ to receive the special rate.

Transportation Information

Transportation between the Downtown Philadelphia Marriott and New Foundations Charter School will be provided. Check the Schedule At A Glance in the program guide for pick up and drop off times. Please note that if you miss the bus, you will be responsible for your own transportation to and from New Foundations Charter School, at your own cost.

ACT48 Credits Available

10 Act 48 hours will be available to attendees at the National Urban Service-Learning Institute. Act 48 Credits are $20.00 per credit. A form will be available onsite for attendees, indicating (and verifying) attendance and subsequent hours.
