Crosswinds Arts and Science School
For Service-Learning Practitioners
Improving Instruction and Student Motivation through Service-Learning
Who should attend: Teams of teachers, administrators, and district leaders
Why: Learn how to document the impact of service-learning on student learning and growth.
Join this extraordinary gathering of teachers, principals, and district leaders dedicated to helping schools achieve academic excellence through service-learning. The Institute is designed to deepen urban educators' understanding of ways to design academically rigorous learning environments and construct assessments of knowledge and thinking proficiencies, skills, and dispositions. Participants will:
- Examine how service-learning can be used to ensure that academic goals are met and supported through community connections.
- Engage in substantive conversations about meaningful academics through an urban lens.
- Participate in service-learning projects that demonstrate the phases of the service-learning cycle, including investigation of the academic environment, assessment, meaningful service, reflection, and plans to go deeper.
- Use service-learning to encourage students’ self-directed learning and academic achievement.
A team of national presenters, led by NYLC Professional Development and Research Team, will facilitate the Institute.
Space is limited.
