Employment & Volunteer Opportunities

The staff at NYLT are essential to creating this powerful, lasting, and life-changing experience for young people. NYLC hires temporary staff and volunteers to help run NYLT, including Primary Group Leader positions — senior staff at NYLT who are experienced working with youth. NYLC Youth Advisory Council members join as youth staff members in the positions of Assistant Group Leaders, who help lead primary groups, and Resource Staff, who are responsible for all the ‘behind the scenes,’ work at NYLT. All of these positions will be on site for staff training, and will remain at NYLT through the end of programming and reflection. We will also be looking for health professionals to assist as a Camp Nurse throughout NYLT.

Primary Group Leader
Primary Group Leaders are senior staff at NYLT, filled by experienced youth workers. Primary Group Leaders are responsible for leading a diverse group of 8-10 high school students from across the nation throughout the 8 days of NYLT with the assistance of an Assistant Group Leader. This includes intensive, experiential wilderness activities, intellectually stimulating seminars, cultural exchanges, reflection, and off-site visits and activities.

Camp Nurse/Health Care Manager
The Camp Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers, staff, volunteers, and mentors. This includes helping to deliver a staff orientation on health-related procedures, overseeing first aid procedures, supplies, and equipment, screening campers and staff upon arrival to NYLT to verify health history, emergency authorization, and any observable evidence of illness, keeping and distributing camper medication, and maintaining accurate and detailed medical records. The Camp Nurse will also help keep parents informed of their child’s conditions throughout the course of an injury or illness.
