Planning Underway for the 2012 Conference: Our World, Our Future
On June 22, NYLC and youthrive will hold the annual conference community kick-off event to rally organizations to help to plan the 23rd Annual National Service-Learning Conference and youthrive PeaceJam Leadership Conference. The combined conference will be in Minneapolis, Minn., April 11-14, 2012, with the theme “Our World, Our Future.”
The conference is already attracting national and local organizations as supporters, and kick-off participants will shape programming for the event and further develop the theme. Youth Service America, Wilder Foundation, and William Mitchell College of Law are part of the planning effort; Minneapolis/St. Paul and regional organizations are also encouraged to join planning committees. Youth make up about a third of conference attendees, and young people from across the nation are being recruited to serve on the youth planning committee.
Keynote speakers on the 2012 conference plenary stage will be Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO of the Harlem Children’s Zone, who was named one of "America's Best Leaders" by U.S. News and World Report; and Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi, the first woman in the history of Iranian justice to have served as a judge.
Interested in becoming a sponsor, conference partner, or affiliate? Want to serve on a planning committee or submit a workshop proposal? The Call for Proposals is now available online. The deadline to submit a workshop proposal is Sept. 23, 2011.
NYLC and youthrive invite you to be part of this annual event that changes lives of young people, their teachers, and communities. See attached PDFs for more information or contact Amy Meuers, Conference and Events Director, at nslc@nylc.org.
