New Service-Learning Professional Development Offerings for Youth, Educators

For thirty years, the National Youth Leadership Council has provided programs and services that develop young leaders, support educators, and advance the field of service-learning. This year, NYLC has ramped up its professional development services and now offers standard and customized professional development options for multiple audiences, including youth (K-12) and educators (in K-12, afterschool, or community-based settings).

National Youth Leadership Council Day Declared in the State of Colorado

In honor of the National Youth Leadership Council’s thirty-year commitment to engaging youth, educators, and community leaders to empower youth as valuable resources in solving the critical issues that affect them by advancing the field of service-learning, supporting educators, and developing young leaders through it programs and service, Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper has declared Saturday, March 16, 2013 as National Youth Leadership Council Day in the state of Colorado.

NYLC and the Presidio Trust to Offer Youth Leadership Training

This summer, NYLC will offer the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) on July 20–27, 2013 at the Presidio of San Francisco. The training will be offered in partnership with the National Center for Service and Innovative Leadership, a new initiative of the Presidio Trust.

Twenty-Six High Schools Receive Project Ignition Grants to Promote Safer, Smarter Driving

Colorado PeaceJam Founder Wins National Award

Dawn Gifford Engle, executive director and cofounder of PeaceJam Foundation in Arvada, Colo., is the recipient of a national honor recognizing her lifetime commitment to leadership and service. The Alec Dickson Servant Leader Award, presented by the National Youth Leadership Council and sponsored by the UPS Foundation, honors exemplary leaders who have inspired the service-learning field, positively impacted the lives of young people, and motivated others to take up the banner of service.

NYLC Endorses Frederick Douglass Family Foundation’s New Proclamation of Freedom

December 10, 2012

In September 2012, NYLC signed the New Proclamation of Freedom written by students from nine secondary schools across the country  and the Frederick Douglass Family Foundation. The proclamation acknowledges the existence of modern slavery, or human trafficking, and advocates for a National Human Trafficking Education Program. The secondary schools education program uses service-learning as a key strategy to develop and support initiatives to end modern-day slavery.
