NYLC Names New Professional Development Director
tony byersThe National Youth Leadership Council has named Tony Byers as its new Professional Development Director.
Byers brings a wide breadth of service-learning expertise to NYLC,
including experience with training and managing trainers,
organizational development, diversity issues, and community
development. Byers' history with NYLC and service-learning dates back
to his participation in its first National Youth Leadership Training in 1985, a program that he has helped staff every year since 1988.
For the past 15 years, Tony has served as an internal and external
human- and organizational-development professional, working with school
districts, community-based organizations, and corporations. He has
played a vital role in the design and implementation of professional
development programs and trainings — including community development
initiatives, leadership development, performance management, and
diversity — for institutions across the country. Most recently, he
served as an adjunct professor at Metropolitan State University in St.
Paul, where he designed, facilitated, and evaluated courses in which
students worked in community and educational environments, introducing
them to the concepts of participatory action research, community
development, and service-learning.
"We are excited to have found such a strong, inclusive, passionate,
and charismatic leader, trainer, facilitator, and communicator," says
NYLC Deputy Director Jim Pitofsky. "With more than 20 years of
professional development expertise behind us, we look forward to
joining forces with Tony to explore new terrain and expand our
offerings."
