New Board Members Join NYLC
NYLC is delighted to announce that National Middle School Association Executive Director Betty Edwards and former Otto Bremer Foundation Executive Director John Kostishack have joined the governing board. As NYLC’s CEO Jim Kielsmeier said: “We look forward to working closely with them. They each bring such unique experiences to our work.”
Betty Edwards
Edwards, in her work with NMSA, directs the nation's largest professional association focused on the education of young adolescents — 10- to 15-year-olds. Its 26,000 members include teachers, principals, school administrators, professors, parents, and college students, and it represents more than 200,000 educators through its institutional memberships. She is a past president of both National Middle School Association and the Kentucky Middle School Association and has served twice as the chair of the Alliance for Curriculum Reform.
John Kostishack
Kostishack served the Otto Bremer Foundation for more than 28 years before retiring in 2008. There he managed a $30 million grant-making program and was also active in the work of the Funders’ Collaborative for Strong Latino Communities and the U.S. Human Rights Fund. Prior to joining the foundation, he worked as the executive director of the Minnesota Governor's Rural Development Council and directed the Office of Community Development at Southwest State University. Before moving to Minnesota, he worked with the Department of Industry, Labor, and Human Relations of Wisconsin and served seven years with the Peace Corps in Latin America
