In Memory of YAC Member Evan Dalgaard

We are sad to share the news that NYLC Youth Advisory Council member Evan Dalgaard was killed in a head-on collision early Saturday morning, April 19, in Illinois, on his way home to Kirkwood, Mo., after an event at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Evan was a freshman at the University of Missouri in Columbus.

Evan first became a part of NYLC through his involvement on the statewide Missouri Service-Learning Advisory Council. He held various staff roles with NYLC’s National Youth Leadership Training over the past four years, having first participated as a camper in 2004. Since his first NYLT experience, he had served on NYLC’s Youth Advisory Council, offering youth and adult trainings with fellow YAC members and NYLC staff, and supporting NYLC’s communications and development efforts as a writer and editor.

We will remember Evan for his infectious smile, heartfelt compassion, dancing ability, commitment to social justice and equality, and the seriousness with which he pursued his studies. As one friend says, Evan majored in “life.”
