Crossing Borders: NYLC's Russian Visitors
crossing bordersService-learning was the topic of conversation when four Russian youth policy representatives visited St. Paul today, under the auspices of CONNECT/US-RUSSIA and The Open World Program. Their visit was part of a program to support Russian professionals who work with young people, helping them garner new perspectives on ways communities can respond to the needs, problems, and concerns of young people.
As part of their trip, Julia Rud, Manager of the City Council of Zheleznogorsk, Nikolay Leonidovich Moskalenko, Chairman of the Committee on Youth Affairs of the Kalach District Administration; Tatyana Deniskina, Head of the Youth Department of Khabarovsk City Administration; and Sergey Ponomarenko, Chairman of The Committee of Youth Policy of the Komi Republic visited NYLC. The four joined NYLC President and CEO Jim Kielsmeier for a three-hour conversation on service-learning. Ideas were exchanged and a number of seeds were planted for possible collaborations.
