Former NYLC Youth Project Team member Rebecca Jarvis is one of two finalists competing for the coveted position of working for renowned entrepreneur Donald Trump. The final choice will be made this Thursday, December 15, during the season finale of "The Apprentice."
Introducing Resources for Recovery
In response to the tremendous long-term needs of those
affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the National Youth Leadership Council
has introduced Resources for Recovery — an effort to tap the
power of young people through service-learning as a sustainable, effective part
of the recovery effort.

NYLC President and CEO Receives Founders Award
At Learn and Serve America's 15th Anniversary Symposium, held December
1, 2005, in Washington, D.C., NYLC President and CEO Jim Kielsmeier
received a Founder’s Award for his early and formative contributions to
the service-learning movement.
Young People and AIDS: Infected, Affected, and Effecting Change
Although young people are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, they
are also a major force fighting it. They offer some of the most active
voices in prevention efforts across the globe. With The 17th Annual
International AIDS Day taking place on December 1, we wanted to share
some of those stories.
Resources for Recovery to Visit Gulf Coast
NYLC President and CEO Jim Kielsmeier and Common
Cents New York Executive Director Teddy Gross will travel throughout
the Gulf Coast region gathering information to inform the work of Resources for Recovery, an affiliation of regional and national organizations developing a sustainable, effective approach to tap the power of
young people through service-learning as part of the recovery effort.
NYLC Names New Professional Development Director
The National Youth Leadership Council has named Tony Byers as its new
Professional Development Director. Byers brings a wide breadth of
service-learning expertise to NYLC, including experience with training
and managing trainers, organizational development, diversity issues,
and community development.
Our Duty
From July 17-24, 2005, 88 youths and 13 adult partners gathered in Sandstone, Minn., for NYLC's National Youth Leadership Training,
a life-changing week of adventure, self-discovery, friendship, cultural
exchange, leadership building, and service. At the weeks conclusion,
Evan, a 17-year-old participant from Missouri, left us with a poem.
Growing to Greatness 2006: A Sneak Peak
In March, NYLC will release "Growing to Greatness 2006," the third report from Growing to Greatness: The State of Service-Learning Project.
The 2006 report will boast a new feature, results from NYLC's Minnesota
Profile of Positive Youth Contributions; state-by-state profiles of
service-learning activity; and numerous articles, including a
look at service-learning as practiced in various American Indian
cultures.
