Daoud Hari, recently featured in Newsweek magazine for his book ”The Translator,” will address the Service-Learning World Forum audience at the 19th Annual National Service-Learning Conference Wednesday, April 9. A Zaghawan tribesman who grew up in the Darfur region, he survived an attack on his village, and ended up a refugee in Chad. Rather than picking up a gun, he used his language skills as a translator for major global organizations including The New York Times, the BBC, the United Nations, and other aid groups seeking to enter Darfur. NYLC staff have helped develop an accompanying curriculum to Hari’s book for high school students that promotes thoughtful youth action.
