Service-Learning: Placing Compassion into the Principles, Structure, and Practices of the Classroom

Profound experiences and passion for a subject, relationship, or values do not always equate to sustained, meaningful teaching and learning in our classrooms. As we have become inspired by this day’s events, we next need to reflect, place what we’ve learned into the context of our classroom. This workshop will provide you a moment of time, resources, and structure to bring what you feel passionate about into the learning environment of your classrooms.

We will explore how to engage youth voice, produce meaningful services, sustain helpful partnerships, ensure deep learning through reflection; all connected to your classrooms preexisting academic goals. You already know that they key to connecting compassion to students’ lives is through experience. With so many pressures on teachers, connecting this experience to preexisting goals will be key to sustainable, compassionate, teaching and learning.
