Graduate Course: Meaningful Service and Reflection
Wednesday, January 19, 2011 (All day) - Saturday, March 26, 2011 (All day)
The K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice Series
Interested in taking a deep look at how you can improve student outcomes through service-learning? Delve into the K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice for guidance on using service-learning as a strategy for academic achievement and school success.
This first of three one-credit courses, beginning Jan. 19, is designed to help you understand and implement the service-learning standards to create richer learning experiences for your students.
When you’re planning service-learning, what can you do to ensure that young people find the activities meaningful, both for themselves and the people the project serves? How can you strengthen the power of reflection to enhance the development of metacognition and other higher order thinking skills? Explore in depth what the research says about two important service-learning standards and discover how to translate that research into what you do in the classroom with students.
