2011 National Youth Leadership Training

Saturday, July 16, 2011 (All day) - Saturday, July 23, 2011 (All day)

Youth from around the country gather to forge connections across races, ethnicities, genders, geographies, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Together, they participate in leadership activities, cultural events, and service projects while exploring issues related to the achievement gap, race relations, and ethics.

Join us for a life-changing week!
Since 1979, young people have gathered for a week of adventure, self-discovery, leadership-building, and service. The NYLT model and philosophy has been replicated and adapted both locally and internationally.

Taking it Back Home
This training prepares students to implement service-learning projects in their home communities that address the achievement gap.

Teams will receive an achievement gap facilitator guide at the completion of NYLT. Youth can use the guide to design projects and facilitate trainings to engage their peers in the issue. This approach recognizes young people as not only the subjects of the achievement gap, but also as stakeholders.

Who Should Participate
Teams of 2-3 students, entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2011, from a school or community-based organization, accompanied by a supportive year-round adult mentor or teacher.

Fees
Youth $500
Adult $200
