2008 National Youth Leadership Training

Sunday, July 20, 2008 - 8:00pm - Saturday, July 26, 2008 - 2:00am

High school students from Minn. and beyond gather for The National Youth Leadership Training, a life-changing week of adventure, self-discovery, friendship, cultural exchange, leadership building, and service.

Held in Mound, Minn., at the Voyager Environmental Center, NYLT engages participants in a wide range of physical and intellectual activities, including canoeing, team building, stimulating seminars, small-group interactions, and service projects. Young people are challenged to push their limits and develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while building cross-cultural bonds and preparing themselves for active, contributing roles in their communities.

At the conclusion of NYLT, teams of participants and their adult sponsors complete intensive "take it back home" planning to implement service projects in their home communities. All participants will be encouraged to apply for a mini-grant, with which to implement their home service project once they leave NYLT.

REGISTRATION

Youths register in small teams with an adult sponsor from sponsoring schools and organizations. Attending as a group is one of the most effective ways to sustain what participants learn at the NYLT after they return home. Adult sponsors attend the final two days of the training, working alongside their youths to create service-learning projects that will be implemented in their home communities.
