National Service-Learning Conference Empowers Florida Teens to Save Lives in Hurricanes Wake

2004 NSLC attendees participated in service-learning projects organized by the ManaTEEN Club, a youth-led volunteer initiative of Volunteer Services of Manatee (Fla.) County. Participants created hurricane emergency kits, packaging hundreds of meals and flashlights to distribute to Florida residents in case of an emergency. Resources for Recovery
Two leaders from the service-learning field traveled to the Gulf Coast soon after the devastation of the 2005 hurricane season to meet the educators and young leaders involved in the recovery process. Safety Preparedness for Seniors
United States
Students participate in an aging sensitivity course taught by AmeriCorps members and then applied their new knowledge in several projects that promoted senior safety, including the identification of potential environment hazards, disposal of hazardous waste, and preparation of emergency kits. more »
