Denver, Colo. (March 15, 2013)  — The National Service-Learning Awards were presented on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 during the 24th Annual National Service-Learning Conference® in Denver, Colo. The awards are presented by the National Youth Leadership Council and are sponsored by the UPS Foundation.

Wendy Spencer to Keynote 24th Annual National Service-Learning Conference

St. Paul, Minn. (March 6, 2013) —The National Youth Leadership Council is pleased to announce that Wendy Spencer, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), will keynote the 24th Annual National Service-Learning Conference, Without Limits, on Wednesday, March 13, at the Colorado Convention Center.

National Youth Leadership Council Day Declared in the State of Colorado

St. Paul, Minn. (February 20, 2013) —In honor of the National Youth Leadership Council’s thirty-year commitment to engaging youth, educators, and community leaders to empower youth as valuable resources in solving the critical issues that affect them by advancing the field of service-learning, supporting educators, and developing young leaders through it programs and service, Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper has declared Saturday, March 16, 2013 as National Youth Leadership Council Day in the state of Colorado.

NYLC and the Presidio Trust to Offer Youth Leadership Training

ST. PAUL, Minn. (February 6, 2013) — The St. Paul, Minn.-based National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) will offer its National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) program on July 20–27, 2013 at the Presidio of San Francisco. The training will be offered in partnership with the National Center for Service and Innovative Leadership, a new initiative of the Presidio Trust. This will be one of the first programs offered through the National Center, and is the first time in NYLT’s 30-year history that the training will be held on the west coast.

Twenty-Six High Schools Receive Project Ignition Grants to Promote Safer, Smarter Driving

Coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council® and funded by State Farm®, Project Ignition has selected 26 high schools from throughout the United States and Canada to receive $2,000 in service-learning teen driver safety grants for 2013.

Colorado PeaceJam Founder Wins National Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Dawn Gifford Engle, executive director and cofounder of PeaceJam Foundation in Arvada, Colo., is the recipient of a national honor recognizing her lifetime commitment to leadership and service. The Alec Dickson Servant Leader Award, presented by the National Youth Leadership Council and sponsored by the UPS Foundation, honors exemplary leaders who have inspired the service-learning field, positively impacted the lives of young people, and motivated others to take up the banner of service.

Springfield Service-Learning Champion Wins National Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Beth Nickle, a teacher for 23 years at Bailey Alternative High School in Springfield, Mo., is the recipient of a national honor recognizing her commitment to young people and service-learning. The Service-Learning Practitioner Leadership Award, presented by the National Youth Leadership Council and sponsored by the UPS Foundation, celebrates those who have equipped young people to lead and serve. The award will be given during the 24th Annual National Service-Learning Conference® on March 13, 2013 in Denver, Colo.

Turning Grease into Fuel Service-Learning Project Wins National Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Members of the Turning Grease into Fuel project of Westerly, R.I., are receiving a national award for their leadership and service. The Youth Leadership for Service-Learning Excellence Award, given by the National Youth Leadership Council, will be presented to members of TGIF during the 24th Annual National Service-Learning Conference® on March 13, 2013 in Denver, Colo.

Civic and District Leaders Recognized for their Support of Service-Learning

(September 25, 2012) — The National Youth Leadership Council thanks North Carolina Senator Kay Hagan (D) and Representative Howard Coble (R) for convening a Capitol Hill Briefing, as well as Guilford County Schools, and all of the panelists who participated in the event on Thursday, September 13, 2012.

Student Success Soars in North Carolina School District

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2012) — The National Youth Leadership Council and Guilford County Schools will host a public briefing Thursday, September 13, 2012 on Capitol Hill to discuss how a North Carolina school district achieved high levels of academic success by implementing a character development and service-learning initiative. Three years after the initiative began the district has reduced the number of low-performing schools from ten to zero.
