NYLC Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council is a team of servant-leaders, ages 14-21, recognized for their dedication to promoting youth leadership, youth-adult partnerships, diversity, and addressing the achievement gap through service-learning. YAC members come to NYLC from the National Youth Leadership Training, where each summer young people from across the United States learn skills needed to:

  • enhance awareness of social, political, and environmental issues
  • motivate action for the common good
  • build capacity for taking effective action — individually, in groups, and in organizations
  • strengthen abilities to work cooperatively across races, ethnicities, genders, geographies, and socioeconomic backgrounds

YAC Committees

YAC advises NYLC on its programming, staffs the National Youth Leadership Training and the National Service-Learning Conference, and brings a valuable youth perspective to the organization’s work. Some YAC members also serve as NYLC Board of Directors members.

Communications and Outreach
This community supports NYLC’s Communications team and NYLC’s general external communication efforts. They market and share the work of NYLC, the Youth Advisory Council, and NYLT participants through various means, including NYLC’s webpage, blog, and NYLC’s Facebook page.

Conference and Events
This committee helps plan and support aspects of the National Service-Learning Conference as well as elements of the National Youth Leadership Training.

Smart. Achievement Gap Initiative and Training Committee
This committee supports the progress of service-learning action plans being implemented by NYLT participants to address the achievement gap. They develop and facilitate in-person and online trainings including Service-Learning 101 and Smart. Youth Solutions to the Achievement Gap.
